Holiness: To Lofty to Attain?
Every Christian in any state or walk in life are called to complete fullness of Christian life and to attain perfection in their good works towards mankind; all are called to holiness as it is said, "Be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect."[1]
Perfection, the faithful should use amount of faith that was given to them by the Cross of Christ, in that by doing the will of the Father in all things, they can devote themselves fully to the Glory of G-d, and to serve their neighbor. In this manner the holiness of the Church – the People of G-d – will be able to grow in fruitful abundance as it is seen clearly in the history of the Church and through the lives of so many faithful that have gone before.
The progress to a more intimate relationship and union with Christ will undoubtedly will hone spirituality of the Christian traveler. This mystical union is brought on from the daily walk that we have with Him through prayer, the careful study and meditation on and of His Holy Words. G-d call us all to an union that is intimate even if those that are more talented are only granted such for the sake of manifesting the gratuitous gift of the Cross for the sake of all.
The call to the fullness of the Christian life and the good works toward their neighbor is for all Christians without exception. The only limit that Christian perfection has but one, that having none; as it is said:
“If any of you want to come with Me, you must forget yourself, carry the cross, and follow me.” [2]
The say of perfection can only pass by the way of the Cross. There is no holiness without renunciation and spiritual battle. [3]
The reason for G-d wanting man to be holy, is so that man can be glorified, as it is said:
“We know that in all things God works for the food with those who live him, those whom He has called according to his purpose. Those whom God had already chosen he also set apart to become like His Son, so that the Son would be the first among many believers. And so those whom God se apart, He called; and those He called, He put right with Himself, and He shared his Glory with them.”[4]
It is in the Church, in the fellowship with all of the believers and the receiving the Word of G-d containing the teaching of the “Law of Christ” [5], that the Christian can fulfill the innate desire to become more intimate with Christ and fulfilling the call for being holy. From this fellowship he receives the grace from the fraternal love that sustains him through and to the call of Holiness. From the Church he learns what holiness is and recognizes that its model and source can be found the daily lives of the faithful, from the examples of the lives lead of those that have gone before, the traditions and the from the rhythms of the Christian holidays throughout the year.
To this point, Andrew Murry said:
“Do not strive in your own strength; cast yourself at the feet of the Lord Jesus, and wait upon Him in the sure confidence that He is with you, and works in you. Strive in prayer; let faith fill your heart-so will you be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might,”
and:
“Nowhere can we get to know the holiness of God, and come under His influence and power, except in the inner chamber. It has been well said: "No man can expect to make progress in holiness who is not often and long alone with God."
Is holiness to lofty to attain? Spend time with others in fraternal love, fellowship and in assembly; meditate on His word, obey the Law of Christ and be in prayer with Him so that your heart will be enlighten.
